About me
I am a private tutor with eleven years experience based in Cambridge, UK. I tutor English, History, Religious Studies, Philosophy, and Film Studies from GCSE to A-Level. I work online & in-person.

Qualifications
BA History from the University of Cambridge (2016), MA Screenwriting from the National Film & Television School (2018). Verifying documents and my DBS certificate can be requested.
Tutoring Experience
I've tutored students across all abilities and backgrounds, and worked to deliver exceptional and consistent results for all my clients.
Alongside full-time tutoring I work directly as an examiner for most major exam boards (including AQA, Edexcel, and OCR) for both coursework and summer exams for over three years. I receive training and resources directly so I know exactly what examiners are thinking - because I am one!
I'm a friendly, chatty person with a deep interest in history, literature, and film (quiz me!), and I always offer lovely photographs of my old dogs (Elvis and Pickle) whenever requested for a mood boost. I'm from a working-class background and so I know, truly, that hard work, preparation, and patience are crucial ingredients that are required to do well.
Approach to Learning
My approach is work-led: homeworks, exam questions, past papers, and an absolute focus on (a) grasping precise content, and (b) applying writing and argument directly to mark scheme criteria. Each session is guided by piece(s) of written work before moving on to the next piece of exam preparation. As an examiner and a tutor I have the same approach - the mark scheme matters most. It guides my entire style and it is why I get results.

Testimonials & Reviews
I have over 73 verified five-star reviews from the defunct platform FirstTutors. Selected feedback I have received:
"Nathan is an outstanding tutor and a true game-changer. Thanks to his guidance and his mastery of history, combined with endless patience and a brilliant sense of humour, each one of his session are both engaging and effective. Thanks to his dedication and support, my daughter achieved the result she needed to secure her place at UCL."
"Nathan has done an excellent job in addressing our child's difficulties in approaching exams. In particular, Nathan has adopted a pragmatic approach in supporting our child's revision. He recognizes his pupil's strengths and weaknesses and adapts accordingly. Our child looks forward to lessons with Nathan - and has now achieved three grades higher in GCSE mocks than before."
"Nathan is such a positive person and makes an A* at History A level feel not just fun but also, crucially, attainable. Nathan has been invaluable in my preparation as my teachers at school simply cannot cope with the pace of marking which Nathan marks (at no extra cost than tuition sessions) which is necessary to achieve the A*. Nathan is a first-rate tutor."
